from a local business. The winning organisation will be selected from the

Glasgow Business Award for Best Performing Business (25 employees or under)
Sponsored by Dunning Design Ltd
This award is intended for small businesses with 25 employees or under,
which have established a clear product/service offering and can demonstrate
dynamism, commitment to growth and success in achieving planned objectives.
Successful smaller businesses should be able to demonstrate a clearly defined
vision for developing and growing the business in terms of both turnover
and employment. Entrants should be able to demonstrate a clear business
focus and strong sales record. Staff development and involvement of the
workforce in the growth of the business, innovative approaches to product/service
differentiation and proactive relations with customers and suppliers will
be key characteristics of successful organisations. While demonstrating
entrepreneurial characteristics, successful organisations will have systems
in place to measure performance effectively, particularly in terms of financial

Glasgow Business Award for Best Performing
Business (over 25 employees)
Sponsored by the Glasgow Employer Coalition
Aimed at larger businesses which have successfully grown their organisation
and now operate with over 25 employees. Successful organisations will demonstrate
key characteristics such as strong leadership and a clearly defined vision
for achieving growth through strategic objectives. Performance throughout
the organisation will be effectively measured and the organisational culture
will demonstrate an approach to business, based on encouraging employee
development, creativity and empowerment. Employees will demonstrate strong
proactive relationships with customers and suppliers. Entrants should be
able to present a strong performance record and explain how their business

Glasgow Business Award for Sustainable Development
Sponsored by Scottish Water
Sustainable Development is how the economic, social and environmental
elements of business and society connect. Successful applications in this
category will require to show how their organisation is a responsible business,
focused on achieving the key priority areas of sustainable consumption
and production through working towards achieving more with less; natural
resource protection and environmental enhancement; creating places where
people want to work and live now and in the future through sustainable
communities; and confronting the challenge of climate change and energy.
Applicants in this category should demonstrate a clearly-defined understanding
of sustainable development issues in relation to their business, the actions
they have implemented as a responsible business through a policy geared

Glasgow Business Award for Creative Marketing
Sponsored by Glasgow City Marketing Bureau
Entrant organisations will have successfully developed and implemented
creative marketing strategies and innovative ways of doing business with
customers. They will show a high degree of creativity and dynamism in exploring
ways to market their product or service to its fullest market potential.
Entrants will demonstrate how the impact of the marketing strategy is measured
across the business and describe how it has had a positive impact upon
your business and the marketplace. Entrants will demonstrate key characteristics,
for example, excellent client relations and effective approaches to business
and staff development and recognising the contribution from staff when

Glasgow Business Award for Excellence in Skills and Learning
Sponsored by the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework Partnership (SCQFP)
Open to organisations which demonstrate commitment to the learning and
development of the workforce, and where appropriate, the supply chain.
Organisations should prioritise the pursuit of business excellence through
the knowledge and skills of their staff. Successful organisations in this
category will demonstrate a strategic commitment to learning throughout
the organisation, recognising the importance of the continual development
of staff skills. Improvement in skills levels and achievement of externally-recognised
accreditation should be translating into quantifiable benefits to the company. Back

Glasgow Business Award for International Business
Sponsored by Glasgow City Council Business Support
Open to organisations which are successful in exporting and committed
to continued growth in their international business (outside the UK). Entrants
will show expertise in planning and managing an export strategy including
managing currency fluctuations and credit control. Effective sales, marketing
and distribution strategies will be in place and the organisation will
be making great efforts to ensure that products are suitable or adapted
for international markets.Successful organisations entering this category
will be prioritising international activities within their overall organisational
strategy and will be managing their overseas business proactively and professionally. Back to Top
Glasgow Business Award for Contribution to Local Employment Partnerships (LEPs)
Sponsored by Jobcentre Plus
This award will recognise the outstanding contribution made by employers
and partners involved in LEPs - the Government's new partnership approach
to help disadvantaged jobseekers back into work. Entrants will be able
to demonstrate what steps they have taken to open up opportunities for
people who, for whatever reason, have not yet been able to take advantage
of the employment opportunities that are out there. For employers this
can involve changes or enhancements they have made to their recruitment
methods to offer people opportunities to get back into the workplace and
progress. Submissions from partners would show what initiatives they have
implemented to support the LEP agenda. Back

Glasgow Business Award for Business Leader of the Year

This award recognises the contribution of an individual who has inspired
and motivated others and maintained a consistency of purpose throughout
periods of change, leading their team or organisation to significant organisational
success. Individuals will have developed and ensured delivery of the organisation’s
mission and vision. They will have developed organisational values and

Glasgow Business Award for Business Deal of the Year
Sponsored by Glasgow Chamber of Commerce
Open to any business that has done an exceptional deal in any aspect of
its activities in the last year. This could be a deal that had a major
effect on the business, and/or has had a particularly positive effect on
the city. Successful organisations will demonstrate the strategic nature
of the deal(s) worked on, their complexity including structure and negotiation
to completion, the financial requirements of the deal and the groundbreaking
